Dedication of Our 77th Volume to New York State Solicitor General Barbara Underwood
CALL FOR PROPOSALS
The New York University Annual Survey of American Law is honored to dedicate its 77th volume to Barbara Underwood, the first woman to serve as Attorney General of New York State.
Topic:
Barbara Underwood has dedicated her career to the people of the State of New York . She has served in leadership roles within three District Attorney’s offices in New York City (New York County, Kings County, and Queens County), was the first female Attorney General for the State of New York, and currently serves as New York’s Solicitor General.
In recognition of Barbara Underwood’s service in state government, this dedication issue explores topics related to progressive federalism. We are seeking paper proposals centered around state constitutional advocacy and the use of federalist principles to advance progressive ideas. Selected papers will be published along with tributes to Barbara Underwood written by Zachary Carter, Pamela Karlan, Elizabeth Holtzman, Janet Sabel, and Seth Waxman.
Submission of Papers
All proposals on this topic should be sent to law.annualsurvey@nyu.edu no later than July 6, 2020. We are accepting proposals on a rolling basis. Authors will be informed of their selection for publication within three weeks of submission. Authors have until October 5, 2020 to submit their papers.
Proposals should include a title, detailed abstract, curriculum vitae, and statement of how the paper will engage with the spirit of progressive federalism.

Founded in 1942, the New York University Annual Survey of American Law is a student-edited journal at New York University School of Law. Annual Survey is NYU’s second-oldest law journal and was originally compiled by NYU faculty members as a comprehensive annual reference guide to developments in American law. Now a quarterly publication, Annual Survey continues its original mission by exploring contemporary legal developments in the United States from a practice-oriented perspective.
