About Me

The UCLA Journal of Islamic and Near Eastern Law (JINEL) is published once a year, typically in October or November. We are accepting article and student comment submissions between September 1 and December 31 2023, for publication in April 2024. We are reviewing submissions on a "rolling" basis until the end of the submissions period. Please do not hesitate to contact us for any questions or concerns.

JINEL’s goal is to emphasize and critically analyze all legal issues relevant to the Near East and Islamic world. Because the Near East is not a static geographical region, JINEL has adopted the broad policy of looking at each submission on a case-by-case basis and within the context of history to determine its relevance. Areas of traditional study (e.g., The Arabian Peninsula, the Iranian Plateau) will of course be included, yet we frequently receive relevant articles involving other areas of the greater Islamic world (North Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia, etc.). Issues regarding Muslim-minority communities in the diaspora are also welcome.
