Dear Authors,

The California Western Law Review is seeking legal scholars and professionals to speak at our upcoming Symposium, Children in the Law: Evolving Rights and Emerging Challenges.

Children’s rights are an increasingly dynamic area of law. Advances in technology, evolving constitutional doctrine, and changing understandings of child development have raised important questions about children’s legal status and the responsibilities of parents, government, and private actors. The symposium will explore when children should be treated as independent rights holders, when parental authority should prevail, and when the state has an obligation to protect children’s interests.

The symposium will feature a keynote address and three interdisciplinary panels:

Keynote Speaker:
The keynote will examine the evolving legal treatment of children in the criminal justice system, including juvenile adjudication, constitutional protections, and the balance between accountability and rehabilitation.

Panel 1: Children and the Criminal Justice System
This panel will explore juvenile adjudication, constitutional protections, culpability, and the balance between accountability and rehabilitation.

Panel 2: Children and the Internet
This panel will address children’s privacy, social media, artificial intelligence, digital identity, online exploitation, and protections for child influencers and other minors online.

Panel 3: Children and Immigration
This panel will examine immigration detention, family separation, unaccompanied minors, and the constitutional and statutory protections owed to children in the immigration system.

Additionally, should you be interested, we will consider your scholarship for publication in a subsequent issue of our Journal.

Please direct interest in speaking and/or potential publication to the Executive Director of Symposia and Outreach, Tatijana Underwood, at tbrienza@law.cwsl.edu.

Kind regards,

Tatijana Underwood
