The Public Interest Law Journal is inviting submissions for our Winter 2027 Edition. Submissions may include previously unpublished articles, essays, case notes, book reviews, and commentaries on topics related to public interest law, broadly defined by our editorial team. We are particularly interested in submissions that combine critical theory with progressive practical application. The Journal is interdisciplinary and encourages contributions from non-lawyers. The Journal is committed to increasing representation for marginalized academic communities. Some topic areas we are especially interested in publishing on are:

  • Environmental law/Indigenous land rights/works examining the impacts of global warming.
  • Criminal justice and decarceral theory.
  • Family law and non-traditional family arrangements.
  • International human rights and connections between domestic policy and atrocities abroad.
  • Constitutional law and work related to the rise of fascism and/or the decline of civil liberties.

If any portion of a manuscript has been previously published, the author should so indicate. In addition, the author should include their credentials, including full name, degrees earned, academic or professional affiliations and citations to all previously published legal articles. The Journal accepts both hardcopy and electronic submissions; however, electronic submissions are preferred. At this time, the Journal only publishes student-written work from its own Editorial Board members. There is no word/page minimum or limit, but conciseness is a virtue.

Manuscripts should be double-spaced and typewritten (one side per page, if printed) with one-inch margins. Footnotes should conform to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (22nd ed.). For further information, email pilj@bu.edu.

We accept submissions through:

  • Scholastica;
  • Emailed to pilj@bu.edu with the subject line “Winter 2027 Submission”;
  • Hardcopy mail to: Editor-in-Chief Boston University Public Interest Law Journal 765 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, MA 02215.
