The California Western International Law Journal (ILJ) is accepting submissions for Volume 57 No. 2, which will be published in Spring 2026. ILJ publishes timely and original works on a wide variety of international legal topics, including public and private international law, the law of international organizations, international trade law, international environmental law, international arbitration, and international human rights. ILJ also publishes pieces of foreign and comparative law that are of particular interest to the international legal community. We welcome submissions from legal scholars and professionals, including professors, judges, practicing attorneys, policymakers, and advocates.

This year, our journal is proud to highlight our theme: Children in the Law: Evolving Rights and Emerging Challenges. Authors whose submissions align with this theme may also be considered for an invitation to present their work at our Spring Symposium in Late February/Early March 2027. The symposium will consist of two keynotes and three panels discussing children’s rights in contemporary issues such as AI and the internet, unaccompanied minors, and the juvenile justice system.

That said, please do not feel constrained by this theme for your writing as we welcome submissions on any topic related to international legal scholarship.

Submission Guidelines:

Author Information: Please include a resume or CV with all submissions. ILJ does NOT accept submissions from law students who are not attending California Western School of Law.

Length: ILJ submissions are to not exceed 35 pages double-spaced (including main text, footnotes, and appendices).

Style: Submissions should use footnotes for citations and additional explanatory text. Additionally, please include a cover page with the title of the work, your name as you prefer to be listed in the publication, an abstract, your affiliation, and, if desired, any other bibliographical information and acknowledgments.

Citations: Citations should conform to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation, 22nd Edition. For non-English language sources and personal research, please provide detailed and accurate citation information and have digital source copies available, if possible.

Deadline: Please submit papers by December 14th, 2026 to be published in the ILJ. Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with priority given to earlier submissions.

Please submit your completed paper through Scholastica and direct any questions about publication to ilj@cwsl.edu or to the Editor-in-Chief, Rodrigo Vela, at rvela@law.cwsl.edu

Thank you for your interest in publishing with the California Western International Law Journal (ILJ). We look forward to reviewing your scholarship.
