The history of the Loyola Maritime Law Journal rests in the old volumes of The American Mariner (AM. MAR. L.J.), a Journal once published annually by the students of Loyola University College of Law.

In 2002, under the leadership of then Editor-in-Chief, Robert Guidry, this journal received the blessing of Loyola University College of Law and was named the Loyola Maritime Law Journal.  It was said in the inaugural issue, "It is fitting that Loyola University New Orleans College of Law host this Journal. Loyola is an excellent school where many of the leading members of the admiralty bar have received their education. The new Journal will serve them and the Loyola students as well as maritime practitioners around the world." Thomas J. Schoenbaum, J.D., Ph.D.

The Journal is a scholarly journal which is published bi-annually and provides an avenue for research and writing by practitioners, faculty, and students in the dynamic and exciting fields of maritime law.  It publishes articles, student comments, and casenotes that provide the legal and academic community with a scholarly perspective on the issues facing a diverse and international industry.

The members of the Loyola Maritime Law Journal are excited to present The Loyola Current. The Current is a law blog written and edited by members of the Loyola Maritime Law Journal. The purpose of this blog is to  provide maritime attorneys with a concise statement of emerging issues in maritime law through news updates, short articles, and recent case summaries. All articles are reviewed by Advisory Board members of the Loyola Maritime Law Journal who each contribute their expertise in a particular field of maritime law. Our ultimate goal is to produce a reliable and informative source of maritime news and commentary for practitioner-readers.
