Dear Authors,
The California Western Law Review has extended the submission deadline for Volume 63, Issue 1 to August 7, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.
As the Journal continues reviewing submissions, we would also like to highlight several areas of particular interest for the 2026–2027 publication cycle. We are especially interested in scholarship that examines inequities, unresolved questions, or deficiencies in existing law and considers opportunities for meaningful legal, institutional, or policy reform. We welcome works that challenge established legal frameworks, explore the law’s impact on individuals and communities, and propose reforms designed to advance justice, equality, and accountability.
The Journal is also proud to feature Children and the Law as the theme of its 2027 symposium. Authors whose scholarship addresses legal issues affecting children, families, or youth may also be considered for an invitation to present their work at the symposium.
These areas reflect the Journal’s current interests but are not exclusive. We continue to welcome and consider submissions across all areas of law from legal scholars and professionals, including professors, judges, practicing attorneys, policymakers, and advocates.
Submission Guidelines
Format: Manuscripts should be submitted in Microsoft Word format with margins of at least one inch on all sides.
Length: The Journal publishes works of varying lengths and styles, including articles, essays, book reviews, and other shorter-form scholarship.
Style: Submissions should present timely, original, and substantive legal analysis rather than merely summarizing existing scholarship. Citations and additional explanatory material should appear in footnotes.
Citations: Citations should conform to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation, 22nd Edition.
Author Information: Please include a cover page containing the manuscript’s title, the author’s full name, academic or professional affiliation, abstract, and complete contact information. Authors should also include a current curriculum vitae or résumé with their submission.
Authors must disclose at the time of submission whether any portion of the manuscript has been published previously or is currently under consideration elsewhere.
Deadline: Please submit manuscripts by August 7, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time. Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and authors are encouraged to submit their manuscripts as early as possible.
