If universities can't support adjuncts like Tanya Paperny, will there be a brain-drain from academia?

Professors cannot make ends meet, yet athletic directors and collegiate coaches make huge sums of money. This sends a message to the youth of society that winning football games is more important than finding a cure for cancer. At my own school, the former quarterback is a celebrity on campus and cannot walk around campus without being hounded, while a professor who genetically engineered a drought resistant crop, is credited with saving over a billion lives, and won a Nobel Peace Prize, is completely unknown to the student body.
