About Me

The University of Santo Tomas Hospital - Research Ethics Committee (USTH-REC), formerly known as the University of Santo Tomas Hospital – Institutional Review Board (USTH-IRB), is a body whose function is essential and relevant to the research mandate of the UST Hospital. It reviews all research protocols involving human participants ensuring its social value, scientific validity, ethical soundness and relevance to the research mandate. More importantly, the committee ensures the protection of the health and safety of participants through a positive benefit-risk ratio, minimized risks, an adequate and valid informed consent, minimizing breach of privacy and confidentiality, and fair selection of participants with just compensation. 


The USTH-REC is a Level III ethics committee recognized nationally  by the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB) and internationally by the Forum for Ethical Review Committees in the Asian and Western Pacific Region (FERCAP) since 2016 to the present. 


We are located at the 6th Floor St. John Macias O.P. Bldg. (formerly Clinical Division Bldg.) A.H. Lacson St. Sampaloc, Manila, 1015.
