About Me

Prof Ouahmiche Ghania is a full Professor of Applied Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, and Language Sciences at the University of Oran 2, in the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Department of English. She holds two Ph. Ds—one in Sociolinguistics and Language Planning and another in French Didactics and Language Sciences—and a Licence in Theology and Religious Studies. With over 26 years of experience teaching English at the University of Oran, she began her academic career in 1998 as a part-time instructor in the Department of English.
Prof Ghania has held several roles, including the Editor-in-Chief of Traduction et Langues The Journal of Translation and Languages TRANSLANG since 2015, the Head of the Translation and Methodology Laboratory TRANSMED since 2021, and the Head of the Master's Program in ESP and Specialized Discourses. In November 2024, she was appointed Chair of the Commission of Visibility and Ranking at the University of Oran 2.
Her research interests cover a range of fields within her areas of expertise, including English for Specific Purposes (ESP), Applied Linguistics, Discourse Analysis, Phonetics and Phonology, Translation Studies, and Theology and Religious Studies.   

She has coordinated and led a large number of research projects, demonstrating her expertise in various academic and scientific domains :    
• Head of the National Research Project (PRFU) titled: "Towards an Enactive Approach in the Design of a Professional Training Device at Higher Education through Activity Analysis" since 01/01/2020.
• Head of the National Project with socioeconomic impacts titled: "Adaptation of Academic Needs of Learners/Trainers to Professional Standards: The Case of the National School of Hydraulics" since 2019. 
• Head of the National Research Project (PRFU) titled: " English for Specialization at The Algerian University: Didactic Issues and Pedagogical Devices" since 01/01/2016. 
• Member of the National project (PNR) titled (EDIBIS): Elaboration of a French-Arabic textile dictionary, 2008-2012. 
• Member of the National Project (CNEPRU) titled: Orientalism and Quranic Sciences: The Case of the Exegesis of the Quran by Michel Cuypers, 2010-2013. 
• Member of the National Project (CNEPRU) titled: "Analysis of Quranic Discourse through Iterativity and Thematic Dissemination", 2008-2012. 
• Member of the National Project (CNEPRU) titled: Comparative Study of Syntactic Structures of Two Languages: Arabic and French, 2001-2005.  

She has chaired numerous national and international colloquia and symposiums, demonstrating her prominent role in academic events:  
• Chair of the International Study Days organized by the Translation & Methodology Laboratory TRANSMED in collaboration with LTT Network and Ecole Supérieure de Setif, 28-29 May 2024, “La terminologie de l’intelligence artificielle : créations terminologiques, emprunts et transfert de concepts”.  
• Chair of the International colloquium organized by the Translation & Methodology Laboratory TRADTEC, 23-25 April 2017, titled “Langues, Employabilité et Enseignement Supérieur : Contexte(s), Référenciassions et Pratiques Professionnelles”.  
• Member of the Scientific Committee of the 6th International Colloquium on Linguistics, Literature, and Translation, April 5-6, 2017, in Jordan.
• Chair of the international colloquium organized by the Translation & Methodology Laboratory TRADTEC, 22-23 September 2014, titled: "The Visibility of Multilingualism in the Transformation Process in the Maghreb."  
• Chair of the study day on "Translation, Perception, and Language Didactics" (2009), University of Oran.
