The New England Law Review is pleased to announce the launch of our new “Book Review” section, now available on our website: https://newenglrev.com/book-reviews/

We are currently soliciting submissions for the Book Review page, with the possibility of being featured in our print edition. Although these submissions should not be submitted through Scholastica, we thought this would be an ideal forum in which to share our submission guidelines. The instructions are as follows:

Please send all submissions to forum@nesl.edu. Please do not send these submissions via Scholastica, as that is reserved for consideration of publication in print and in the Forum. There are two options for submission:

(1) Submit a full draft manuscript. We strongly encourage full manuscripts, although we understand that this is not always possible.

(2) Submit a short draft section of your review, ideally three to five pages, along with a formal one- or two-page proposal that includes:

  • Information about the book(s) you propose to review. This should include: author, title, publisher, and publication date; a brief overview of the book’s contents; and a brief description of the book’s place within legal scholarship, including an explanation of why you think the book is important and timely.
  • Information about the piece you propose to write. This should include: a summary of the anticipated content or scope of the review, including a description of the angle you plan to take and the novel arguments that you anticipate advancing in the piece; and the stage you have reached in writing the review.
  • A set date for the submission of your completed draft.

Further, please include the following information for submission:

  • If you have previously published with the New England Law Review or worked for New England Law | Boston;
  • Any information relevant to either the book or proposed review, including, for example, a relationship with the author or a particular expertise in the area; and
  • Your CV

Please note that we will not take any submission that appears to be in need of significant editing. These reviews are lightly edited by our staff for consistency and adherence to our in-house style guide. Also, please note that all submissions will be titled “Book Review: [Title of Book] [Rest of Title]” to promote visibility of your review.

If you have any questions, please email lawreview@nesl.edu. We look forward to reviewing your submissions!
