Albany Law Review is calling for submissions to its State Constitutional Commentary issue. This book will draw attention to how state courts have construed their state constitutions to expand or revoke their citizens’ civil rights and liberties in an era of retrenchment by the U.S. Supreme Court. A central goal of this book will be to analyze the various ways state courts have responded to recent decisions by the U.S. Supreme Court, and how they have found support for these actions within their state constitutions.  Interested authors are encouraged to submit their articles directly through Scholastica or directly to Sophia Casabonne, Executive Editor for State Constitutional Commentaries, at Scasabonne@albanylaw.edu.

We generally publish article-length manuscripts (40-70 pages), though the journal does not have an official page-cap policy. Length judged to be excessive will weigh against selection. Essays (20-40 pages) and book reviews will be considered on a limited basis.

All articles should be submitted as editable Microsoft Word documents. Text should be double spaced. Note that Albany Law Review edits text according to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (21st ed. 2020) and, where the Bluebook is silent, the Chicago Manual of Style (17th ed. 2017).

Citations must substantially conform to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (21st ed. 2020). Manuscripts should use footnotes and not endnotes.
