The Interdisciplinary Insights: The Journal of Saint Leo University’s College of Education and Social Service is dedicated to original inquiries in education and social services. 

We are pleased to announce the development of a special issue 

Focus:  Best practices in higher education that promote active learning 

 

Submission deadline is 8/1/22 with a tentative publishing date of 9/15/22 

 

Articles – still submitted for blind peer review 

  • Length should be no longer than 10 – 15 pages including references) 
  • May have less emphasis on empirical research and more emphasis on being practitioner based and best practice 
  • Must still be written using APA: 
    • Double spaced 
    • 1 in margins 
    • 12 pt Times New Roman font 
    • NO title page with authors (information entered in system at time of submission) 
    • No page numbers 
    • Proper use of headings 
    • Header with title only 

 

Anticipated sections of the issue are:

 

I. Impact of COVID on active learning 

 

II.  Benefits of Active Learning (examples below) 

            a. How these strategies provide a window into student thinking and        inform our instruction.  

            b. How these strategies build classroom community/culture 

            c. How these strategies provide an organic method of differentiation  

 

III. Active Learning Strategies Across the Disciplines (examples below) 

            a. Whiteboards 

            b. Flip Grid & Interactive Journaling   

            c. Regular Asynchronous Worksheets Quizzes and Discussion Boards –  

            d. Shared Documents 

            e. Padlet Escape Rooms 

            f. Paired Debates
